Why we choose BeeGone™! Bug Repellent

Most traditional bug repellent is made of chemicals. Deet is very effective at getting rid of bugs, but do you really want to spray that on your skin, or even more on your kids?
I don't, and that's why I needed a natural alternative.

BeeGone!™ Bug Repellent is made of coconut oil, shea butter, beeswax, and an essential oil blend. It's a powerful bug repellent made with simple ingredients that you can pronounce. We combine a variety of essential oils to get the most effective repellent for a variety of pests. It doesn't kill bugs, it merely keeps them from biting.
We have had many reviews that say it works better than traditional bug repellent. I know it works for our family, and I don't have to worry about what side effects it might have on my kids. Click here to order yours --- Bee Gone!™ Bug Repellent

Hamburgers and Lotion

How many ingredients are in your lotion?
Let's say you want a hamburger.  Why you ask, are we talking about hamburgers?  Hang in there, you will see in a minute.  Ok, so you want a hamburger, you can drive through some common fast food restaurant and get a double cheeseburger for a dollar, right?  So as far as your want goes, you have met it easily and cheaply.  I looked up some information on a fast food burger.  I will spare you the ingredients list, but guess how many ingredients it contains.  No really, guess.  You aren't guessing are you?  Okay, I will tell you, eighty-three.  Yes, you read that right, eighty-three ingredients in a cheeseburger.  Now, let's imagine a home cooking solution to your hamburger craving.  You have ground beef at home and decide to make your own cheeseburger.  You need beef, salt and pepper and maybe a few other spices if you like.  You can make buns, which would involve only five more ingredients.  We all top our burgers differently at home, so depending on the number of ingredients in those things, you could make a burger with anywhere from nine ingredients to maybe fifty, if you went all out with toppings.  I mean, LOTS of toppings.  Store bought toppings with multiple ingredients.  So, no matter what, the home made version has considerably less ingredients. If you purchase good ingredients, then they are also considerably healthier ingredients.  No high fructose corn syrup if you buy good ketchup and pickles.  No weird pink slime in your meat if you shop local and get good beef.  Good cheese contains very few ingredients.  You get the idea.  I am sure I will get little argument that the home version tastes better too.  So why do we eat fast food hamburgers?  Convenience, mostly.  We are out, the restaurant is there, the kids are hungry, it's just easier than going home and making the healthier version.

Now let's talk lotion.  I just looked up a cheap brand of lotion that I could think of off the top of my head, one that I have used before.  You can buy a bottle for three dollars.  It contains twenty-one ingredients.  Lots of them are things that we should NEVER put on our skin, which is our largest organ that absorbs everything we put on it.  Petrolatum and fragrance, yuck!  The first one though... water.  The main ingredient in almost all store bought lotions is water.  Now let's talk about Sweet Girl ingredients.  Take our body mousse for example, it contains shea butter and coconut oil.  Our lotion bars contain shea butter, coconut oil and beeswax.  If you choose our scented products, they contain essential oil.  That is a total of four ingredients at the most.  Do you see where I am going with this?  They are healthy ingredients that are actually good for you, and you can pronounce.  Plus, you aren't paying for water.  The biggest difference though, is that they work.  I spent years using gallons of lotion because no matter how much I used, it never helped.  I can see a difference immediately after using a lotion bar.

So, that's how burgers are related to lotion in my mind.  Small changes lead to big differences when it comes to health.  Now, who wants a burger?

I thought for my first blog post I would introduce you to the family and a little bit about how we do what we do.

I suppose I should start with my husband and myself. Devin and I met in college and have been married for fifteen years now.  For most of our married life, he has been in full-time, paid ministry.  This year, we decided to get involved with a church plant in our area.  So, although he is still doing what he has always done, he is doing it differently, and not for a paycheck.  He has also always been a private music teacher, and taught school for several years.  Currently he is a substitute teacher and private music teacher, hoping to be a full-time teacher next year.  For Sweet Girl, he is the tech guy, sales coordinator, and accountant.  Pretty much if it involves a computer, it's his job except social media stuff, that is something I can handle.  Although I am writing the blog, I wouldn't know how to post it to the website without him telling me.  Which leads to me, Carrie.  I am a homeschooling mother of five.  I love to cook and in recent years have learned a lot about healthier foods.  Those things contributed to me deciding to make lotions, which led to bath products.  I am learning to make soap now, but it is scarier than lotion, so we will see how it goes!  I make and package the goodies around here, and avoid the computer at all costs, unless I'm posting on Facebook, which is a part of my normal routine.

So, yes, there are five kids running around here (literally) all the time!  Our oldest is Christian, who is almost eleven and in fifth grade. He is the stamp man around here, stamping our products with our initials.  He is a musician just like his dad and, brilliant mom that I am, I let him start playing drums as a little boy.  Fortunately, he is good at it, but that doesn't make it any quieter.  The good news is he also likes to read, so at least there are some quiet moments from him.  He's a good helper and is learning to do many things to help keep things running around here.

Next in order is Caden, who is nine and in third grade.  Caden is analytical and creative.  He loves puppets and has recently gotten interested in movie making.  Caden helped stamp once, but didn't like it because he made a mistake.  He is always coming up with marketing strategies for us.  As a friend put it, "One day we will all be working for Caden."  It's probably true.  He loves to help with the younger kids when I work on things.
Smack dab in the middle is our sweet girl, Charis, who is five and in kindergarten.  She is all flowers, sparkles, and rainbows in the midst of a bunch of boys!  She is the official "bow helper" who holds the ribbon down when I tie it.  She loves to just spend time with us and is mom's helper in anyway she can be!

Then there is Cai, who is four.  How can I describe Cai?  He is rambunctious, hilarious, stubborn, sweet, and only stops moving to sleep or watch tv.  He is the encourager, coming over to tell me he loves me while I am working.  He is also a guitar player, drummer, super hero, and ninja, depending on the time of day.

Last, for now anyway, there is Callen, who is two.  He is into everything anyone else is doing, and is the family clown.  He loves to make his siblings laugh, and will do just about anything he can think of to do so.  It works, and they all love him for it.  He also wants to do everything any of them do, which they don't love so much, but he is growing up quickly and will be able to do as much as they can in no time!

So there you have a little about each of us, and how we run things around here.  We look forward to sharing more with you and getting to know you soon!
